Gregory Mill Park

Gregory Mill Park

As Stewart Creek meanders through the park, it flows near the spot where Constance Hardeman originally built his mill. The picture to the right shows the dam…the man made canal  leading to the mill site flows off to the left.

Constance Hardeman was in the area by 1803 when he wrote the petition to organize the County of Rutherford. His home stood above Stewart Creek near the present Wal-Mart location. Mr. Hardeman’s final resting spot is in the small, well-kept cemetery in the Cobblestone subdivision near his homesite.

Today, the park is owned by the Army Corps of Engineers but is under a long term lease to the Town of Smyrna.
