Henry Harrison Mayes

On Old Nashville Hwy, in front of Abiding Faith Lutheran Church, stands an impressive concrete cross. I drove past this cross daily, for several years, without realizing it was a genuine article of American folk art. I’m not sure if this is the original location for the cross, but it is evidently one of several made by Henry Harrison Mayes (1898-1986). You can read more about him here

You never know what you will find in Smyrna!

  1. I noticed that a word has been altered by someone placing “Made” over the “Get.” I don’t know how long it has been like this. It’s supposed to say “Get right with God.”
